I began my career search much like everyone else. I scoured job listings for positions that sounded interesting and ones where I thought I could succeed. I wrote the best cover letter and resume I could manage and mailed them off to the hiring companies. I changed them to suit the job I was applying for over and over again.
I waited a week. Then, a month. Not only did I not get one interview, I didn’t get one phone call. Disappointed and discouraged, I knew there had to be a better way. I knew a different approach was necessary to make myself stand out against the hundreds, maybe thousands of other job applicants vying for the same positions. I started to look beyond the resume and try new job-hunting strategies. I learned this strategy from someone that has been a mentor to me.
Today, I am a regional vice president at one of the largest financial firms in the world, and I love my job!
